Don't Settle! Find a place that feels like a home instead of feeling like a facility. It should be decorated and colorful like a normal living arrangement would be. The direct care staff should add a motherly touch to the physical environment. However, there are always going to be exceptions to this that need to be taken into account. For example, a house with three teenage boys that have Autism is probably not going to have many breakable items or lots of things hanging on the walls!
